From the outset, America’s War on Drugs was designed to punish those who use drugs. Most often, people use drugs to ease the pain of trauma, whether it be emotional, physical, or both. The drug war has sent many millions to prison, often destroying their lives and tearing families and communities apart. Countless millions more have died. This inhumane, immoral, and devastating war is really a war on people.
