An American Songbook

Alicia Carter, Vocals   &   Naomi Amos, Piano

This event is free & open to all.

Soprano Alicia Carter will present “An American Song Book,”  here at UUTC on Saturday, October 8, at 7 p.m.  Some of you have heard her sing at one of our services; she is the daughter of Dan and Jane Carter.

Dr. Carter, who teaches German and Spanish at Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia, performed with the Robert Shaw Chorale while still a high school student in Atlanta and double majored in German and voice at the College of Wooster in Ohio.  In addition to numerous vocal recitals, she has performed as a soloist with such groups as Cantari, Voice Columbus and the Miami University Chorale.

Her accompanist Naomi Amos studied at the University of Rochester and the Eastman School of Music and is a colleague at Lynchburg College.  Ms. Amos has also performed numerous solo recitals over the years and is a well-known collaborator with vocal artists.  Since 2007, she has been the rehearsal pianist for “Opera on the James.”

The program, “An American Song Book,” will consist of songs by such well known composers as George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Harold Arlen, Leonard Bernstein and more.  Most of Dr. Carter’s concerts have consisted of classical art songs and arias, but she has always had a deep love of the great American song-writers of the last seventy-five years and this is her chance to perform some of their best loved popular songs.
