In Frank Baum's childrens' fantasy novel "The Wizard of Oz" a young girl, Dorothy, and her dog, Toto, embark on a journey without distance to the Emerald City. Along their way they meet three characters who represent powers Dorothy will need to confront the greatest obstacle of her journey, the dark side. When Dorothy discovers that she has had these powers all along, she returns home and finds her heart's desire. Through Baum's novel we will explore the universal, archetypal themes that are part of the human quest to discover the heart's desire.
